Squash Planting Instructions –
We recommend direct sowing squash seeds 1-2 inches deep in an area that gets plenty of direct sunlight (at least 6 hours). You can transplant young plants, but squash roots are sensitive making it easier to direct-sow the seeds. Make sure to wait until there isn’t a chance of frost and soil temperatures are at least 60-65 degrees. The soil should be rich, well-drained, and have plenty of organic matter. Start seeds in slightly elevated dirt mounds 3-6 feet apart, as squash are sprawling plants that need plenty of space. Plant 4-6 seeds per mound, then thin to 1-2 depending on how far you choose to space the plants.
