Pepper Planting Instructions –
Plant Seeds in high quality seed starting soil mix in shallow flats/plant cells at ¼ inch depth. The most common time to start pepper is 6-8 weeks before you plan to transplant after your area’s last frost date. Peppers (especially hot peppers) can be tricky to germinate. Make sure to maintain high soil temperatures of at least 75-85 degrees. We highly recommend using a heat mat (especially with hot peppers) if you need help maintaining these temperatures. This will give you way faster and higher percentage germination. Keep seeds consistently moist (a humidity dome is helpful). Make sure to be patient. Pepper seeds can take any where from a few days to around a month to germinate depending on the variety (hot peppers usually take much longer than sweet peppers). After the seeds sprout we recommend putting them under grow lights(or a good source or light) and maintaining consistently warm temperatures. Wait until there are 3 sets of true leaves before transplanting to larger containers. Nighttime temperatures should be close to or above 60 degrees every night when you transplant peppers outdoors for them to thrive.
