Crosby Egyptian Beet is a fantastic 1800’s heirloom! Since beets are generally thought of as a European crop, the name continues to pique people’s curiosity which is probably why it was named that. Egypt was very popular in American culture at the time that Josiah Crosby introduced this variety in Massachusetts, so the exotic name created quite a buzz. Either way, these beets are nutritious, versatile, and are a great storage variety which is why they are still one of the most popular cultivars to this day!
